Fear or anxiety about the counselling process
It is perfectly normal to feel some anxiety or uncertainty when you start counselling. You may experience some strong emotions in anticipation of dealing with the more difficult aspects of your life. It's important to have strategies in place that will help you to manage these emotions when they arise, and this is even more important when you engage in online therapy, since your therapist will not physically be there with you to help you through the coping process.
If you are worried that, in discussing your issues, your emotions will become so overwhelming that you might not be able to effectively manage them on your own, I invite you to discuss your concerns with me before we begin dealing with those bigger issues. Alternatively, you might find that face-to-face counselling will be a better fit for you at this time.
Whichever option you choose, I encourage you to follow your own instincts. Some degree of discomfort is to be expected in therapy, but if you find that you are really having to push or force yourself to get through some exceptionally painful or difficult emotions, a different approach might be more helpful for right now.
